On this date, June 11, 1998, American Legion Post 479 Poway, CA was incorporated. Meetings dating back to 1994-95 have been recorded and were conducted at 12342 Old Pomerado Road, Poway CA 92064 and other locations in Poway CA. Today, the Post meetings are held at the Fleet Reserve Assoc FRA Branch 70 at 14231 Garden Rd Suite #9, Poway, CA 92064. From 1994 to 1995 Post Commander was Thomas Pownder. The other Officers included; Robert Hylton, William Jensen, Roger Hovden, Edward Harman, and W.W. McVicker.
What makes Our Post Unique
Post 479 works closely with the City of Poway California, and in conjunction with three other veteran organizations to create an overarching program that can support all veterans and their dependents with a wide range of support programs. These support programs include; home renovation for handicap veterans, VA benefits, employment, financial support of needy veterans and their family, and Honor Guard Details for military burials, functions and civilian community events as well. Additionally, Post 479 was instrumental in the creation and now the operation and maintenance of a Veterans Park in Poway California.
We cover multiple areas within San Diego County to include Del Mar, Mira Mesa, Rancho Penasquitos, 4S Ranch, Rancho Bernardo, and Poway.
