POST 479 COMMANDER’S MESSAGE FOR APRIL 2021
Spring is finally here! I attended the District 22 Meeting on April 11th, and I have a few things to pass on.
First, we are at 97.4% in returning members. Thanks to Gilbert for his good work! Thanks to TJ Kluwin for his work checking on member’s emails. There are some that are no longer current. We hope to get to 100%. We’ll see how close we get! We are ahead of most of the District.
Second, we will be sponsoring 5 Boys State attendees this year. The cost is minimal since it is done virtually due to the Covid protocols. We are normally assigned two, but we have decided that we will use the funds to sponsor other candidates that other posts are not able to fulfill the cost.
Third, there is American Legion Baseball this year. Our Post did not allocate funds since it was uncertain whether that would happen this year. There are enough sponsors to cover all 24 teams that wish to participate this year. We may need to allocate funds for next year.
Fourth, Honor Flights will resume this year! Ray Flores from San Diego County wants the names of all WW2 and Korean War veterans that we can give him so we may send them to Washington, DC, at no cost for the veteran and one family member. Contact me for more information.
Fifth, Ray Flores is reaching out to all Vietnam veterans in San Diego County so the County may honor them. Contact me for more information.
Sixth, Post 731 is sponsoring shooting sports this year. Go to the District 22 Website to sign up any young folks (ages 14 to 18) that wish to
participate. There is no cost, but any help with operating costs is greatly appreciated.
Seventh, all Posts are encouraged to nominate an outstanding Police Officer or Firefighter for the Law and Order Award. Contact me for more information.
Eighth, our District would like to get the Oratorical Program up and running. District needs a Chairperson to step forward. Anyone interested please check the District 22 Website.
We are having our next Post Meeting on Wednesday, April 28th, at 7:00 PM. We are located at FRA Club 70, 14231 Garden Road, Poway, CA, 92064. We need all members who can make it to attend. There is a lot to do, and we need help doing it!
